Interesting. Yes, 32-bit disk access replaces the real mode ROM BIOS with a 32
bit protected mode version. Microsoft only supplied a driver for the Western
Digital 1003 controller, a standard which lots of controllers emulate, including
MOST IDE. No all though, cause I've got a system with a old Seagate 42 MB which
doesn't support it and a Plus Hardcard 50Z which also doesn't support it,
although Quantum supplies a driver for it. So that's one IDE drive which needed
a driver.
On the SCSI question, yes most SCSI controllers do not emulate the WD1003. The
SCSI controller driver would need to write a driver. I once had a Future Domain
which did and worked great with Windows 3.0 FastDisk 32 bit disk access.
However, I now am running on an NCR 3350 desktop with an NCR 53C94 SCSI
controller and both 32 bit file and disk access work great!
